Smelling the Sky is a full length novel which will be published, for the first time, here on the School of the New Spirituality website.

The book is about David Fuller, a twelve year-old boy who is convinced that everyone blames him for his little sister’s death.  He feels angry, guilty, and isolated.  Things only get worse when his parents suddenly sell the house and move to a new neighborhood in a new town.  He hopes a new school will grant him a new start, but quickly finds he does not fit in.  His only friends are his weird neighbor and the thug everyone else is af
raid of.  David becomes a target of the most popular kid in school and begins getting in more and more trouble until eventually, he and his friends are sent to Evergreen Participatory Rehabilitation and Education Program, where the motto is, “building minds, bodies, and character all at once.”  It is here, with the help of his friends, some horses and a couple of tigers, he learns that life is not something that happens to him, it is something that springs from his own choices about what to do, think, and feel.

Every two to three weeks, a new Episode consisting of two or three chapters will be posted to the website.  After reading each Episode, you will then have the chance to post your own reactions to the Episode discussing whether anyone or anything in the story reminds you of someone or something in your own life, and what aspects of the characters and their actions highlight the principles of peace and oneness in the School of New Spirituality.
